Group Therapy

The group meets on a weekly basis in Sheffield on Thursday evenings from 5.30pm – 7pm. New members have the opportunity to join when a place becomes available. Normally there will be up to eight members in a group. Currently there are places available for new members to join.

Being in a group can help you to develop relationship skills as well as providing you with a real sense of belonging.

Benefits of Group Therapy

Group therapy offers a unique experience of sharing your therapy. Personal issues are explored in the safe atmosphere of developing trust and confidentiality. Through the unfolding relationships in the group, you will gradually learn about your relationship patterns and establish new affirming ways of being with others.

Group psychology can help you to:

  • Communicate more openly in all your relationships
  • Overcome negative relationships patterns and behaviours
  • Be more assertive
  • Deal with conflict maturely
  • Hear other people say the things that you have not been able to voice on your own
  • Support others as well as helping yourself
  • Build your confidence in social situations
  • Feel a sense of belonging
  • Gain different perspectives
  • Afford a longer-term therapy

I feel much more insightful, more rounded as a person and closer to my ‘true self’ then I have been for a long time.

Group Fees

  • Unwaged or people who earn less than 15K: (before tax)
    £12.50 per week
  • Standard rate:
    £25 per week

Book an Exploratory Appointment

If you’d like to find out more information about group therapy and whether it might be helpful for you, you can book an exploratory appointment with the group conductor. Exploratory session normally last for 45 mins and are the same fee as group sessions.

Appointments are generally on Thursdays between 4.15 – 5pm

What is an exploratory session?

Like all types of therapy, it is always helpful to take a little time to explore if this type of support would be beneficial to you.  Normally if people are happy to proceed after the initial exploratory session you will be offered a further two sessions which will help us decide whether group therapy is right for you.

When could I start group therapy?

If you are offered a place, you will be given a time frame for when you could join. This is dependent on the circumstances of the group at any given time, but could vary from a few weeks to a couple of months.

How long can I stay in the group?

You get to decide when you leave the group, but as a rule of thumb, it is helpful to stay in group therapy for a minimum of one year.  This will give you and the group time to get to know one another.  It will also give you an opportunity to work through some of the issues that come up for you whilst you are in the group.  Normally the longer you stay, the more you will benefit from group therapy.

How many people are in the group?

Normally this ranges from 5-8 members, but numbers will not exceed 8.

I will be taking memories of the quiet connection I have felt with the group.  The love and affection between us. The times we laughed and cried. A renewed feeling of safety and trust around people.  A feeling of being valued, having increased self-esteem. How similar and different we all are. How brave we are.
