Getting the best out of individuals as well as creating an inclusive team environment can be a difficult task. All too often our working environments can be damaged by competitive rivalries, frustration and resentments.

As a group analyst I am trained to observe and understand how a group functions and to intervene when its communication has become strained and damaging. Groups have their own cultures, histories and ways of thinking and behaving, and like families, if these difficulties are not dealt with, then tensions can start to damage relationships.

Consultations

Consultations are an opportunity to discuss the issues in your team. I can help you to identify group dynamics in your team and wider organisation that might be negatively affecting your team.

Ideally the consultation will take place at your workplace so that I can get a feel for your working environment. At this stage I will help you to highlight interventions that you can try to adopt yourself. These could be as simple as changing current working practices that impede, exclude or create divisions in your team. We may also want to undertake a more comprehensive analysis to identify the underlying issues that are having an affect on how your teams functioning and its effectiveness.

The consultation process can also be an opportunity to develop a more accurate picture of the problems in your organisation. This might involve developing staff questionnaires or arranging individual or staff focus groups. Engaging your staff in the consultation phase will help them to feel included in the process. This will increase staff engagement and help people to feel a sense of ownership about future outcomes.

Once the issues in your team have been identified we will move towards an intervention phase. We can then explore what training and ongoing support is needed.
